When we start out on our voyage of life, we all have dreams, dreams of a better life, a desire to do things and to be someone. Yet somehow as we sail on troubles seas full of the monsters of others desires and the squalls of the challenges we face, it is all to easy to settle for the safe nearby harbour.

dreamsIt is easy to be deflected from our original destination not because we have changed but because it is difficult to steer a course that puts us first. In doing so you are saying no to others, you have set and hold firm boundaries. Perhaps you have come to realise that there are relationships that are false. Perhaps you have realised that the hardest challenge of all is to be honest with yourself about the direction that you want our life to do in.

But how do you do it, how do you re-ignite the passion that you felt at the start of your journey how do you value yourself?

The first and most important step is to be honest with you, what would make you happy. Forget about the what ifs and the but that’s not possible… Just say what you really want.

Then start to think about the obstacles, be careful about the ones which are about you and the ones which are about external things. I don’t think anyone would … is an obstacle about limitations you put on yourself, and a limitation that you may have some control over.

Talk to people about your dreams, if you are worried about family and friends perhaps a counsellor or a coach could help, the important part is to share that dream to really explore it.

Try to do some of the things important to you, you may not be able to do the whole dream – but perhaps you can have a taste, perhaps you can enjoy some of the smell of the dream, perhaps it will spur you on to grab the whole picture.

As you work through it you will be surprised at how your attitude will change as you try things as you have successes and work and re-work failures. Ultimately you may reach your goal and even if you don’t you will have been on that journey not heading for the safe harbour of people pleasing but master of your own destiny, a beacon to others to live the dream. – Bon Voyage
