I wonder if you keep a journal? Even if you don’t write each day, I think that there is enormous merit in getting your feelings out. We all have difficult times in our lives when we feel off par, or that the world seems against us. Perhaps we feel anxious about the future or a relationship. Many people bottle those feelings up. As they build and build, rather like an over inflated balloon, the pressure becomes too much and they burst out.
Of course they do not necessarily burst out as hurt or worry, most often they will come out as anger or rage, and you feel out of control. Because is easier to show anger than hurt.
It may be that you could talk to family and friends before the feelings build to such an explosive level, but often it is difficult because they might not understand or are part of the problem. A journal offers a space that you are in charge of. One that will not talk back or judge and will handle any amount of difficult feelings. You don’t have to worry about upsetting friends or family.
You can explore what is making you anxious or upset and over the weeks you begin to get a wider picture and perhaps see the areas that you need to focus on either by talking to someone or doing something different. If you are a stationary fanatic like me you will prefer paper and pen, but many people keep their journal on PC or on-line (be aware of confidentiality).
In short at difficult times of your life a journal can provide a simple way of working through your feelings and getting a new perspective and problems.
