It’s often hard to go and see a counsellor because that says something about you. Many people feel that they have failed, because they are seeking help. Others feel they are suffering some terrible mental illness and life in an asylumn beckons.
In reality neither are true, in many ways it could be said that you have succeeded you have recognised a problem and gone to see a professional. Rather like a pain and consulting a doctor. With 1 in 4 of us likely to suffer depression in our lives increasingly people are seeing mental illness as something quite normal and treatable like any other illness it rarely needs a stay in hospital.
So perhaps when we feel something is wrong and how we feel about it. The world differs from the reality we observe, perhaps talking it over would help. A counsellor or therapist will not judge you as stupid, they will accept you as you are, and will try to help you through the issues at hand.
Sometimes a life event causes us to re-examine values. Sometimes we look back and regret the time invested in things that do not matter like fights and arguments with those who matter to us most. It helps to take some time out and talk through the feelings and understand what is important what is worth fighting for. So don’t you owe it to yourself to have an acceptance of yourself and live your life to the full in the moment.
